Ready?
Up to 60 tasks in five parts, from easy to hard. You can play each recording twice, so turn your sound on. Your progress is saved.
We store your answers without a name to improve the test.
How the test works
Solve the tasks
Listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary. Each part is harder than the last, and the wrong answers are typical learner mistakes.
Stops when it gets too hard
If you solve less than half of a part, the test ends there. No need to struggle through tasks far above your level.
Instant result
You see your level, your points and how you did in listening, reading and language.
What the levels mean
What do the levels sound like?
Hear the same story at six levels from A1 to C2 and compare for yourself.
For companies: placement without lost results

Frequently asked questions
- Is the English level test really free?
- Yes. Langula is funded by ads. No sign-up, no subscription and no hidden costs.
- How long does the test take?
- Between 20 and 45 minutes. At A1 or A2 you finish sooner, because the test ends after a part that is too hard.
- Do I get a certificate?
- No. The test shows where you stand and which course fits. Official certificates only come from a language exam.
- Do I have to give my email address?
- No. Your result appears on screen right away.
- Can I pause the test?
- Yes. Your progress stays saved in this browser. Just open the page again and continue.
- How are points calculated?
- Each task is worth 4 points; partly correct answers count proportionally. 240 points in total: up to 48 A1, up to 96 A2, up to 144 B1, up to 192 B2, above that C1.
- How accurate is the result?
- It is a good estimate, not an exam. The test does not measure speaking or writing. The limits between levels are our own guide values and not officially calibrated.
