      Questions

      Frequently asked questions

How many letters does Hangul have?
24 basic letters: 14 consonants and 10 vowels. Add 5 double consonants and 11 compound vowels and you get 40.
Why does ㄱ sometimes sound like k?
At the end of a syllable, g, d and b lose their voice and sound like k, t and p. That is why the chart shows g/k.
How long does it take to learn Hangul?
With 15 minutes a day, many people can read it in one to two weeks. Hangul was designed to be easy to learn.
Why do I hear syllables instead of single sounds?
Many consonants are hard to say alone, so you hear them with the vowel a, such as 가 for ㄱ.
      Is my progress saved?
Yes, in this browser. With a free account, on all your devices.
