How numbers work in Russian
The numbers 0 to 10 are ноль, один, два, три, четыре, пять, шесть, семь, восемь, девять, десять. From 11 to 19 you add -надцать (from 'on ten'): одиннадцать, двенадцать, тринадцать … девятнадцать.
The tens 20 and 30 end in -дцать (двадцать, тридцать), and 50 to 80 in -десят (пятьдесят, шестьдесят, семьдесят, восемьдесят). Сорок (40) and девяносто (90) are irregular. The unit follows as a separate word: двадцать один, сорок пять.
Among the hundreds, 200 is двести, 300 and 400 are триста and четыреста, and from 500 the ending is -сот: пятьсот. A thousand is тысяча, then две тысячи and пять тысяч. A million is миллион.
Один and два agree in gender: один стол, одна книга, одно окно; два стола, две книги. After два, три and четыре the noun goes into the genitive singular, and from пять into the genitive plural: три года, пять лет. Numbers themselves are declined in all six cases.
The ordinals up to ten are первый, второй, третий, четвёртый, пятый, шестой, седьмой, восьмой, девятый, десятый. They decline like adjectives.
